Harichovce (until 1927 Slovak "Harikovce"; German Palmsdorf or Halmsdorf , Hungarian Pálmafalva - until the end of the 19th century Harikóc ) is a place and a municipality in the Spišská Nová Ves District ( Košický kraj ) in the east of Slovakia , with 1,858 inhabitants ( As of December 31, 2019).
geography
The place in the Spiš lies in the valley of the Hornád river on its left tributary Levočský potok , three kilometers northeast of Spišská Nová Ves and seven kilometers south of Levoča .
history
Harichovce was first mentioned in writing as Baldmar in 1268 . The village is certainly of older origin and was probably founded by a mayor named Waldemar, who settled German colonists here. At the time it was mentioned, the place had a parish and enjoyed self-government and other rights under German law and belonged to the union of 24 Spiš cities. In the course of the centuries Palmsdorf lost its urban character and belonged to the estate of the Spiš Castle since the 16th century and thus to the families Zápolya, Thurzo and Csáky. The German population also gradually assimilated with the Slovak population. In 1828 there were 76 houses and 410 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place was in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia , or today Slovakia.
