history

Today's municipality was formed in 1960 following by merging settlements that were spun off from the town Ves: Biele Vody (German White Water ), Havrania Dolina (German Rabe soaps ), Mlynky, Palcmanská Masa (German Palzmannshütte ) Prostredný Hámor, Rakovec (German Cancer soaps ) and Sykavka.

Iron and copper ore were mined in the former mines. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Palzmann family built a blast furnace and hammer mill in the Palcmanská Maša district. In 1843 the company was sold to the Coburg family. After nationalization in 1948, all mines were incorporated into the newly founded company Železorudné bane in Spišská Nová Ves. The mines have been out of service since 1966. To this day, however, the coat of arms is reminiscent of mining. Today the municipality is oriented towards tourism, both in winter (ski resorts Biele Vody and Gugel, cross-country trails) and in summer (Palcmanská Maša reservoir, Slovak Paradise National Park ).
