Lieskovany (until 1946 Slovak "Lieskoviany" until 1927 "Leskoviany"; German Haseldorf or plugging village , Hungarian Leszkovány - until 1907 Leszkovján ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 359 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Spišská Nová Ves , part of Košický kraj , as well as the traditional Spiš landscape .
geography
The village is located in the southern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin on the lower reaches of the Levočský creek , about three kilometers before it flows into the Hornád . The center of the village is at an altitude of 434 m nm and is four kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring municipalities are Odorín in the north and northeast, Markušovce in the east and south and Spišská Nová Ves in the west.
history
The place was founded by the Mariássy family and was their property until 1848. He first appeared by name in 1277 as Lescoch , other historical names include Liskuan (1328), Stoyk (1332), Monyoros (1427), Lezkowan (1435), Stokfalva alias Lyskowan (1464), Monioros alias Leczkocz (1564) ) and Leskowjan (1773). In the 16th century Lieskovany was only a small settlement. In 1787 the village had 18 houses and 116 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 18 houses and 129 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1988 to 1990 Lieskovany was a part of Spišská Nová Ves.

According to the 2011 census, Lieskovany had 292 residents, including 286 Slovaks . In the case of six residents, there is no information on ethnicity.
266 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents of the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of another denomination. 10 residents had no denomination and the denomination was not determined for nine residents.
