Danišovce (German Dens village or older service village , Hungarian Dénesfalva - to 1888 Danisóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 567 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of the kraj Košický , as well as the traditional landscape Zips .

geography

The village is located in the central part of the Hornádska kotlina basin in the narrow valley of the Odorica brook . The hilly municipality consists for the most part of agricultural land and pastures, in the north there is a pine forest, where the height reaches more than 600  m nm in places . The center of the village is at an altitude of 470  m nm and is five kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .

Neighboring municipalities are Levoča in the north, Domaňovce in the northeast, Jamník in the east, Odorín in the south and Harichovce in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1317 as Dionisii . According to older sources, a church and a parish already existed in 1204, but details are not available. In 1317 the place was part of the Confederation of the Zipser Saxons and later belonged to the confederation of the 24 Spis cities. In the second half of the 15th century, Spis Castle became a landowner. In 1828 there were 27 houses and 200 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture, charcoal making and basket making.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 516 people lived in Danišovce, of which 496 were Slovaks , four Bulgarians , two Russians and two Czechs, and one German . There is no information on ethnicity for 11 inhabitants.

466 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents for the Greek Catholic Church and four residents for the Bahaitum. 11 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 27 residents was not determined.
