Vojkovce (German Woikensdorf or alternatively Wojkensdorf , Hungarian Vojkfalva - to 1892 Vojkóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 419 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of the kraj Košický , as well as for traditional Landscape of Spiš .
geography
The community is located on the southern slope of the Branisko Mountains below the Sľubica massif ( 1129 m nm ), in the source area of the Jasenovec and Studenec streams . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 520 m nm and is six kilometers from Spišské Vlachy and 25 kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring municipalities are Dúbrava in the north, Víťaz in the northeast, Hrišovce in the east, Kaľava in the south, Spišské Vlachy in the west and Slatvina in the northwest.
history
Vojkovce was first mentioned in writing as Voyta in 1282 (other sources give first mention by name as Wykfolua in 1300). At that time the village was owned by the Zsigray family , and in the 16th century it became part of the Spiš Castle territory . The last large landowners came from the Csáky family . In 1787 the village had 31 houses and 229 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 31 houses and 229 inhabitants. Forestry and agriculture were the main sources of income for the population.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Vojkovce had 435 inhabitants, including 418 Slovaks , nine Roma and one Magyar . There is no information on ethnicity for seven residents.
409 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and three residents supported the Greek Catholic Church. 10 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
