history
Oľšavka was first mentioned in writing in 1245 as Olsavicha . The place name is derived from the Slavic word olša (in modern Slovak jelša ) for an alder . Other historical names include Olsaua (1301), Olsova (1378) and Olssawka (1583). At first the village was owned by the Zsigray family , in the 15th century it came under the rule of the Spiš Castle . Thus, until the abolition of serfdom in 1848, families like Zápolya , Thurzo and Csáky were landlords. In terms of size, Oľšavka was one of the smaller settlements in the domain, so in 1598 there were only eight houses in the village. In 1789 the village had 16 houses and 127 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 28 houses and 199 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as farmers.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
