Slatvina (until 1927 Slovak and "Slatvina"; German Salzbrunn , Hungarian Szlatvin ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 319 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of the kraj Košický , as well as for traditional Landscape of Spiš .
geography
The community is located in the eastern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin on the western slope of the Branisko Mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 479 m nm and is five kilometers from Spišské Vlachy and 24 kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring municipalities are Dúbrava in the north, Vojkovce in the east, Spišské Vlachy in the south and Oľšavka in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1246 as Zek and was originally a place of the border guards of the emerging Hungarian state. This is why the local nobles carried the de Szék title . It was not until 1525 that the Slavic form of the name appeared as Szlatwin . Until that year the village was owned by the Zsigray family , after which it came under the rule of the Spiš Castle and thus families such as Zápolya , Thurzo and Csáky were landowners. In 1828 there were 29 houses and 218 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Slatvina had 327 inhabitants, including 322 Slovaks and one Magyar . In the case of four inhabitants, there is no information on ethnicity.
302 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, four residents of the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church. 15 inhabitants or more were non-denominational, and the denomination was not determined for five residents.
