Odorín (until 1927 Slovak "Odorín"; German maid , Hungarian Szepesedelény - until 1907 Odorín ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 979 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of the kraj Košický and to the traditional landscape of Spiš .

geography

The community is located in the southern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin by the Odorica stream in the Hornád catchment area . The municipal area is slightly hilly and largely dominated by agriculture. In the south it borders the Hornád, where there is a rock formation called Markušovský hríb . The center of the village is at an altitude of 441  m nm and is five and a half kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .

Neighboring municipalities are Danišovce in the north, Jamník in the northeast and east, Matejovce nad Hornádom in the southeast, Markušovce in the south, Lieskovany and Spišská Nová Ves in the west and Harichovce in the northwest.

Church in Odorín

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1263 as Odorin . Dirn was first part of the Spiš Saxons federation before the Spiš Castle ruled in 1465 . In 1828 there were 73 houses and 551 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were forestry and agriculture. In 1831 many residents took part in the East Slovak Peasant Uprising .

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Odorín had 940 inhabitants, of which 924 were Slovaks and two were Poles . Two residents stated a different ethnic group and 12 inhabitants did not provide any information on the ethnic group.

814 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 31 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and nine residents to the Evangelical Church AB; six residents professed a different denomination. 37 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 43 residents was not determined.

  • Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas in the Romanesque-Gothic style from the 13th century, modified in Baroque style in the 18th century and supplemented by a chapel in 1806
