Olcnava (German Alzenau or Olznau , Hungarian Detrefalva - until 1907 Olcnó ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,082 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of Košický kraj and for traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The community is located at the transition from the Hornádska kotlina basin to the Hnilecké vrchy mountains to the south (part of the Slovak Ore Mountains ), on the right bank of the Hornád . The center of the village is at an altitude of 400 m nm and is six kilometers from Spišské Vlachy and 21 kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring municipalities are Bystrany in the north, Spišské Vlachy in the north-east and east, Slovinky in the south-east, Poráč in the south-west, Vítkovce in the west and Spišský Hrušov in the north-west.
history
Olcnava was first mentioned in writing in 1317 as Altznow, quae villa alibi Detrici appellatur . It is roughly called "Alzenau, which is called the community of the white Ditrich", so the name indicates the founder of the place, who was called Detre or Ditrich depending on the language . The village belonged to the estate of the Richnava Castle (no longer existing today), after its fall to that of the Spiš Castle . Important owners were Thurzo in the 17th century and Csáky after 1693 . In 1787 there were 28 houses and 235 inhabitants and in 1828 46 houses and 329 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Olcnava had 1,040 inhabitants, of which 992 were Slovaks, three Roma, two Czechs and two Ukrainians and one Pole. There is no information on ethnicity for 40 inhabitants. 930 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, twelve residents to the Greek Catholic Church, nine residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Orthodox Church. 32 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 56 residents was not determined.
