Chrasť nad Hornádom (until 1927 Slovak "Chrasť"; German Hrost , Hungarian Haraszt ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 915 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Spišská Nová Ves District , part of Košický kraj and to traditional Landscape of Spiš .
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin on both banks of the Hornád and on the northern slope of the Hnilecké vrchy Mountains , a sub-unit of the Slovak Ore Mountains . Most of the built-up area is on the left bank of the river, while the train stop is on the right bank. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 423 m nm and is 11 kilometers from Spišské Vlachy and 12 kilometers from Spišská Nová Ves .
Neighboring communities are Spišský Hrušov in the north, Vítkovce in the east, Poráč in the south, Matejovce nad Hornádom in the south-west and Jamník in the west and north-west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1280 as Horost . In 1828 there were 56 houses and 410 inhabitants, who mainly worked as basket makers and farmers.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, 840 people lived in Chrasť nad Hornádom, including 790 Slovaks , six Russians and one Czech . There is no information on ethnicity for 43 inhabitants.
771 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 14 residents the Greek Catholic Church and three residents the Evangelical Church AB. Seven residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 45 residents was not determined.
Buildings and monuments
- Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, originally built in the Romanesque style. The time of origin has not been conclusively clarified, with information varying from the 9th to the 13th century, in 1646 the church was expanded. It is a rotunda from the ground plan and still has three of the four original apses. The tower is unusually above the choir.
