Harakovce (German Harachsdorf or Harakowetz , Hungarian Harakóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 58 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj , as well as the traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The village is located at the transition from the Hornádska kotlina basin to the Branisko Mountains to the east , in the valley of the Žehrica stream . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 503 m nm and is nine and a half kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 24 kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Korytné in the north, Široké in the east, Dúbrava in the south, Žehra in the south-west, Granč-Petrovce in the west and Beharovce in the north-west.
history
Harakovce was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1270 and 1272, respectively. An iron ore mine was operated from the 14th century and was in operation until the First World War. The village was owned by several families, including some of the Spiš Castle . In 1787 the village had 25 houses and 195 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 38 houses and 279 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic, most of the inhabitants were employed as carters, lumberjacks and farmers, and they also commuted to surrounding towns such as Spišské Podhradie and Krompachy .

According to the 2011 census, there were 66 inhabitants in Harakovce, all Slovaks .
All residents professed to be part of the Roman Catholic Church.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic Archangel Michael Church in the original early Gothic style from the second half of the 13th century, renovated in 1662. It was destroyed by fire in 1760 and rebuilt in 1791.
