Baldovce (German Eckersdorf or Baldo wit , Hungarian Baldóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 169 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj and for traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The village is located in the Hornádska kotlina basin on the right bank of the Kobuliany brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 440 m nm and is three kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and ten kilometers from Levoča .
There are a total of six mineral springs in the municipality, very similar in composition to those on Sivá Brada a little north. The slightly acidic Baldovská mineral water is known nationwide .
Neighboring municipalities are Spišské Podhradie in the north and east and south-east (district Katúň ), Hincovce in the south, Buglovce in the west and very briefly Nemešany in the north-west.
history
Baldovce was mentioned for the first time in 1272 as Villa Henrici et Echardi , in 1274 only as Villa Heydenrici and belonged to the estate of the nearby Spiš Castle . The Slovak and Hungarian name is derived from the name of a county count in the 13th century, who was called Bald , and is found for the first time in this form in the name Baldfalva (1344). There was a glassworks here in the 18th century. In 1787 there were 11 houses and 124 inhabitants and in 1828 22 houses and 174 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as broom and basket makers.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 179 inhabitants in Baldovce, of whom 177 were Slovaks. Two residents made no statement. 165 residents professed to be part of the Roman Catholic Church, two residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Protestant Church AB. Six residents had no denomination and five residents had no denomination.
