Dravce (German Drautz , Hungarian Szepesdaróc - to 1892 Dravec ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 834 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of kraj Prešovský as well as for traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The community is located in the Hornádska kotlina basin on the southern slope of the Leutschauer Berge on the Bicír brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 630 meters and is ten kilometers from Levoča and 19 kilometers from Poprad .
The municipality is divided into parts of Bukovinka and Dravce.
Neighboring municipalities are Vlkovce in the north, Dlhé Stráže in the east, Iliašovce in the south-west and south, Spišský Štvrtok in the west and Abrahámovce in the north-west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1263. As royal falconers lived in the village at that time, it was given the Slavic or Slovak name Dravce (Slovak dravec = bird of prey). In 1282 King Ladislaus V gave Mort to the Görgey family and almost at the same time an Antonite monastery was built here , which existed until the end of the Middle Ages. Among other things, a Xenodochium was built there , the oldest “hospital” in Spiš.
In 1828 there are 70 houses and 500 inhabitants.
