Spišský Hrhov (until 1948 Slovak "Harhov" older or "Harchov"; German Gorg , Hungarian Görgő ) is a municipality and a town in the east of Slovakia , with 1,685 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a lower part of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin on the Lodzina brook at the foot of the Leutschauer Berge in the north, seven kilometers southeast of Levoča .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Gergew in 1243, when the family later known as Görgey settled here. In the course of the German colonization of the Spiš , a German village emerged next to the older Slavic one and merged into one place in 1280. In 1828 there are 119 houses and 871 inhabitants. The Görgey family sold their estate to the Csáky family in 1885 , who stayed in the village until 1944.
