Brutovce (German Stenzelau , Stenzel house or Brutowitz , Hungarian Szepesszentlőrinc - to 1892 Brutóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 157 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of kraj Prešovský as well as for traditional landscape Zips .

geography

The municipality is located in the Leutschauer Mountains in the headwaters of the Kunišovský potok and Rovinka brooks ( Torysa catchment area ). The center of the village is at an altitude of 864  m nm and is 24 kilometers from Levoča .

Neighboring municipalities are Tichý Potok in the north, Brezovička and Nižný Slavkov in the east, Bijacovce in the southeast, Ordzovany in the south and Olšavica in the west.

history

Brutovce was founded after 1260 on what was then the neighboring village of Olšavica and was first mentioned in writing in 1319 as Brotouch to Senthlorinch . In 1553 there were three abandoned farms and 28 farmers. In 1787 there were 35 houses and 354 inhabitants and in 1828 63 houses and 459 inhabitants were employed in agriculture and as weavers.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 197 inhabitants in Brutovce, including 186 Slovaks and one Czech. Ten residents made no statement. 178 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, five residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each for the Apostolic Church, the Evangelical Church AB and Judaism. Three residents had no denomination and eight residents had no denomination.

Buildings

  • Roman Catholic Lorenz Church in Gothic style from the 14th century, rebuilt in the 18th and 20th centuries. Inside the church one can find relatively well preserved sculptures from the 14th and 15th centuries.
