Torysky (until 1927 Slovak "Toryská"; German Siebenbrunn , Hungarian Tarcafő - to 1892 Toriszka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 323 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of kraj Prešovský as well as for traditional Landscape of Spiš .

geography

The community is located in the Leutschauer Mountains on the upper reaches of the Torysa , not far from its source. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 810  m nm and is 16 kilometers from Levoča .

The municipality of Torysky borders on Tichý Potok (cadastral municipality Blažov ) in the north, Nižné Repaše in the east, Vyšné Repaše in the south and Levoča (districts Závada and Levočská Dolina) in the southwest and west.

history

The area around the place was mentioned in writing in 1284 as Tarchafeu . After the death of King Sigismund in 1437, the local forests were "illegally" owned by the Görgey family before they were added to the city of Leutschau in 1439.

It was not until 1537 that the city of Leutschau decided to populate the area and settled Russians here under Wallachian law . The newly created village was named Torizka and belonged to the dominion of the city and also paid the taxes there. It was not until the abolition of serfdom in 1848 that the feudal obligations towards Leutschau ended. The first (probably wooden) church and rectory were built in the 17th century. In 1828 185 houses and 1,336 inhabitants were counted who were employed in forestry, sheep and cattle farming. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, many residents emigrated.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
