Pongrácovce (German Pongratzowitz , Hungarian Pongrácfalva ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 118 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj , as well as the traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The community is located in the northeast part of the Hornádska kotlina basin at the foot of the Leutschauer Mountains to the north and not far from the Branisko Mountains . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 526 m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 21 kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Poľanovce in the northeast and east, Korytné in the southeast, Beharovce in the south and Bijacovce in the west and northwest.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1297 as Pangrach and is named after a certain Pongrác , son of Fioch, a member of the high nobility, who had a tower built in the lower courtyard of the Spiš Castle at his own expense . In 1346 half of the village came under the ownership of the Spiš Chapter, and in the 15th century the Polankay family from the neighboring village of Poľanovce acquired ownership. Until serfdom was abolished, various families were landlords, including the Horváth-Kiserich family . In 1828 there were 25 houses and 185 inhabitants.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 97 inhabitants in Pongrácovce, including 96 Slovaks and one inhabitant of another ethnic group.
97 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic Church of Stanislaus from the end of the 13th century. The interior houses Gothic wall paintings from the middle of the 14th century, Gothic Madonna sculpture from the second half of the 14th century and a statue of St. Sebastian from the 15th century.
