Most of the total solar eclipse of May 11, 2097 takes place over the North Pacific , North America , northwestern Europe and the Arctic .
The eclipse is the last central eclipse in Europe in the 21st century.
The maximum of the eclipse is north of Fairbanks in Alaska, approx. 30 km west of the Wiseman settlement , the duration of the totality there is 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
course
The eclipse begins over the North Pacific at sunrise and the moon's shadow moves quickly in a northeastern direction and hits the mainland for the first time on the Alaska Peninsula . With Unimak Iceland , the easternmost island is Aleutian touched by the moon's shadow. In the further course Alaska will be painted over. Unfortunately, neither Anchorage nor Fairbanks are in the path of totality. The shadow then races past the Arctic Ocean between the North Pole and Greenland and reaches the Svalbard archipelago . At sunset the extreme northeast of Norway and the Kola peninsula are reached, where the darkness ends.
