Pavľany (German St. Paul , Hungarian Szepesszentpál - until 1898 Pavlyán ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 48 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj , as well as the traditional landscape Zips .
geography
The community is located on the southern slope of the Leutschauer Berge . The center of the village is at an altitude of 803 m nm and is 15.5 kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Nižné Repaše in the north, Oľšavica in the northeast, Studenec and Spišské Podhradie in the east, Lúčka in the southeast, Jablonov in the south and southwest and Vyšné Repaše in the northeast.
history
The place arose in the 13th century in what was then the municipality of Jablonov and was first mentioned in writing in 1242 as Polan . There was also a medieval settlement called Krigov near Pavľany . In 1339 the village was owned by the Spiš Chapter, in the 18th century the Diocese of Spiš . In 1787 the village had 37 houses and 253 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 50 houses and 371 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
