Nemešany (Slovak to 1927 "Namešany"; German Nemes Chan , Hungarian Nemessány - 1873-1902 Nemessán ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with 425 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj and to traditional landscape Spiš .
geography
The community is located at the transition from the foothills of the Leutschauer Berge to the Hornádska kotlina basin . The Kapustnica brook , which is part of the Hornád river system, flows through Klčov . Until today the community is predominantly agricultural; only in the north is the area forested. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 482 m nm and is six kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and nine kilometers from Levoča .
Neighboring municipalities are Jablonov in the northeast, Spišské Podhradie in the east, Buglovce in the south and Klčov in the west.
history
In the 9th and 10th to 12th centuries there was a Slavic settlement in today's municipality. A village is mentioned in a document from 1249 as Salasan (today Slovakized as Zalužany ), which belonged to the Spiš chapter. There was a manor house and a Gothic church there. This town disappeared in the early 16th century; around half of the same century a new place was built, which was called Nemessan in 1570 . This belonged to various nobles, including Réthy and Nemessány .
In 1787 there were 26 houses and 175 inhabitants and in 1828 there were 29 houses and 211 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 395 people lived in Nemešany, including 382 Slovaks and one Ukrainian. Twelve residents gave no information. 367 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents to the Greek Catholic Church and three residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Four residents were without religious affiliation and the denomination was not determined for 14 residents.
