Ordzovany (until 1973 Slovak "Ordzoviany"; German Radioltz , Hungarian Ragyóc - to 1892 Ordzovján ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 163 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Levoča , a circle of Prešovský kraj , as well as to traditional landscape Spiš .

The community is located in the north-eastern part of the Hornádska kotlina basin at the transition to the Leutschau mountains to the north . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 543  m nm and is five kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 19 kilometers from Levoča .

Neighboring municipalities are Brutovce in the north, Bijacovce in the east, Studenec in the south and west and Oľšavica in the north-west.

history

Ordzovany was first mentioned in writing in 1260 as Redyolcz . In the same year the village was taken from the territory of the Spiš Castle by an act of Béla IV and assigned to the Spiš Provosty. The property later came to the Görgey dynasty , who had pledged their local property to the Spiš Chapter in 1445, before they acquired full ownership in the 16th century. In 1828 there were 49 houses and 353 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.

Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Ordzovany had 166 inhabitants, including 159 Slovaks and two Roma . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity.

157 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church and one resident for the Greek Catholic Church. One resident was non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for seven residents.
