Rodolphe Louis Emile Fornerod (born June 22, 1877 in Lausanne , † September 19, 1953 in Épiais-Rhus ) was a Swiss painter , draftsman and illustrator who worked in France.

Life

Fornerod studied from 1898 to 1904 at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Julian in Paris , where he later resided despite his Swiss nationality. His teachers were Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury . Several study trips took him to Spain; he was strongly influenced by Goya and El Greco . His wife Antoinette, a half-sister of Germaine Pichot and friend of Louise Lenoir , was probably of Spanish descent.

From 1905 Fornerod exhibited at the Artistes indépendants and the Salon d'Automne , later also at the Société Nationale in Paris, in the Salon de La Libre Esthétique in Brussels , in Geneva and in 1909 and 1913 at the Kunsthaus Zürich . At times he had a studio in Épiais-Rhus.

The Musée cantonal des beaux-arts de Lausanne owns a painting by Fornerod entitled The Pigtail .
