Šarišská Poruba (until 1948 Slovak "Vagas", Hungarian Kapivágása - until 1907 Kapivágás , older only Vágás ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 638 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of the Prešovský kraj , and part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the northern edge of the Slanské vrchy Mountains on a backwater of the Ladianka brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 344 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Nemcovce in the north, Lipníky in the northeast, Pavlovce in the east, Okružná in the south and Lada in the west.
history
The place was founded in the second half of the 14th century under German law and first mentioned in writing in 1410 as Mathyuswagasa . It belongs to the domain of the Kapušany Castle and was taxed at 21 porta in 1427 . In 1787 the village had 34 houses and 257 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 41 houses and 326 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, cattle keepers and gardeners.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Šarišská Poruba had 537 residents, 459 of whom were Slovaks and 43 Roma . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 34 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
289 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 200 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Orthodox Church; five residents professed a different denomination. Five residents had no denomination and 37 residents had no denomination.
