Šindliar (until 1948 Slovak "Šinglár" - to 1927 "Šinglár" or "Šingliar"; German Senglerdorf , Hungarian Singler ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 540 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in Prešov District , part of Prešovský kraj , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The community is located at the transition from the Šarišská vrchovina mountains to the Branisko Mountains to the west at the confluence of the Lačnovský potok and Kopytovský potok , in the catchment area of the Svinka . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 493 m nm and is 25 kilometers from Prešov .
Neighboring municipalities are Lipovce in the north, Štefanovce in the east, Fričovce in the south, Široké and Korytné for short in the southwest and Poľanovce in the west.
history
Šindliar was created in the 14th century under German law, according to an agreement between the nobleman Merse and the later mayor Nicolai Schindler . The choice of foundation fell on a wooded piece of land between the Branisko mountain range and the already existing town of Štefanovce. In 1427 the village had a total of 29 portals and was then owned by the Soós family , and from the 16th century by the Bertóty family and other families. In 1787 the village had 48 houses and 337 inhabitants, in 1828 47 houses and 359 inhabitants were counted. a. when fishermen, foresters, carters and farmers were employed. In the 19th century the Ghillányi family owned goods in the village.
Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Šindliar had 543 residents, including 512 Slovaks , two Roma and one Russian . 28 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
497 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents supported the Greek Catholic Church and four residents supported the Greek Catholic Church. The denomination was not determined for 33 inhabitants.
Buildings
- Roman Catholic Archangel Michael Church in Gothic style from around 1300. The wooden tower was added in 1714, and in 1840 the church was renovated.
