history
It was founded under German law in the early 14th century and in the division of the goods of sex Tekule for the first time in 1337 as Herdunghau mentioned in writing, according to the German founder Hartung (or Harting ). Other historical names are Herdung (1345), Peklen (1354), Nemethfalua (1360), Nemethfalu or Puklen (1373), Herdegenshorr, que nunc Peklen vocatur (1439), Usowske Peklany (1773) and Ussowsske Peklani (1786). In 1427 21 porta were recorded in a tax register. The Úsz family, from the Tekule dynasty , owned local estates from the 15th century to 1852, so the municipality derives part of the name (as in the Slovak adjective Uzovské ) from them. In 1787 the village had 43 houses and 262 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 65 houses and 496 inhabitants who were employed as basket makers, farmers and weavers. Around 1800 a quarry was working in the village. In the middle of the 19th century there was massive emigration.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Even in the first Czechoslovak Republic, the traditional main sources of income did not change. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Prešov and Veľký Šariš . In 1998, Uzovské Pekľany was hit by floods.
