Krásna Lúka (until 1948 Slovak "Šenviz"; German Schönwies , Hungarian Széprét - until 1907 Schönviz ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 672 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The community is located in the northeast part of the Leutschauer Berge in the valley of the Kučmanovský potok in the catchment area of ​​the Torysa . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 555  m nm and is 13.5 kilometers from Lipany and 25 kilometers from Sabinov .

Neighboring municipalities are Bajerovce in the west and north, Oľšov in the northeast, Šarišské Dravce in the east and southeast and Poloma in the south.

The local church as such was built in 1295, but the place was only mentioned in 1329 as Sonwyz parish , as part of the Torysa estate. Towards the end of the 13th century, German settlers from the East came to the village and were employed as farmers, cattle keepers, but also as craftsmen. From the 16th century to 1848 Schönwies was in the territory of the Plaveč Castle . In 1600 there were 24 inhabited houses here. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the population was gradually Slovakized, so that in 1778 there were only two German-speaking families. In 1828 there were 60 houses and 474 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 727 residents in Krásna Lúka, including 714 Slovaks , four Russians and two Ukrainians . Seven residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

701 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and 14 residents to the Greek Catholic Church. One resident was non-denominational and the denomination of 11 residents was not determined.

Architectural monuments

  • Roman Catholic Martinskirche from 1295, originally designed in the early Gothic style, rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century and redesigned in Baroque style after 1722. In the main altar there are late Gothic sculptures from the circle of Paul von Leutschau .
