Olejnikov (until 1927 Slovak "Olejníkuv"; German Holenitz , Hungarian Olajpatak - until 1907 Olejnok ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 529 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

Olejníkov

The municipality is located within the Čergov Mountains on the upper reaches of the Ľutinka brook in the Torysa catchment area . The municipality is heavily forested and quite mountainous. The highest point is the Veľká Javorina mountain with 1098  m nm. The center of the village is at an altitude of 484  m nm and is 12.5 kilometers from Sabinov .

The municipality also included the settlements Ambrušovce, Baranie and Majdan, the first two mainly consisting of weekend houses.

Neighboring municipalities are Livov in the north, Kríže in the northeast, Hertník and Terňa in the east, Bodovce , Šarišské Sokolovce and Drienica in the southeast, Červená Voda and Jakovany in the south, Ľutina in the southwest, Hanigovce in the west and Livovská Huta in the northwest.

Modern Greek Catholic Church

Olejníkov was first mentioned in writing in 1454 as Olaypathak and was first owned by the Perényi family , and from the 16th century onwards by the Péchy and Tarczay families . In 1828 there were 46 houses and 359 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, shindlers, forest workers and manufacturers and wooden dishes. In addition, a paper mill worked in the village in the early 19th century.

Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 414 inhabitants lived in Olejníkov, including 221 Slovaks , 172 Roma , two Czechs and one Russian and one Ukrainian . 17 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

332 residents of the Greek Catholic Church, 48 residents of the Roman Catholic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB 13 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 19 residents was not determined.
