Livov (1927-1965 Slovak also "Lvov" - to 1927 "Lvov", Hungarian Kavicsos - until 1907 Livo ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with 72 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a Prešovský kraj district , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .

geography

The village is located in the Čergov Mountains on the upper reaches of the Topľa . The center of the village is at an altitude of 510  m nm and is 24 kilometers from Bardejov .

Neighboring municipalities are Lukov in the north, Kríže in the east, Olejníkov in the south and Livovská Huta in the west.

history

Livov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1600 as Lyuo and belonged to Hertník's territory . A glassworks worked here in the 17th century and several water saws in the 18th century. In 1787 the village had 32 houses and 259 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 83 houses and 632 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, manufacturers of shingles, beams and troughs and as cattle keepers.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, forest work and saws were the main sources of income for the population. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities like Bardejov.

According to the 2011 census, there were 87 inhabitants in Livov, including 69 Slovaks and 18 Russian .

63 residents professed to the Greek Catholic Church, 15 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident was non-denominational.
