geography
The village is located on the Pastevník brook , a tributary of the Sekčov , below the Čergov Mountains to the west of the village. The closest town is Bardejov , 11 kilometers north; the regional capital Prešov is 32 kilometers from the town center.
history
The place was founded in the first half of the 14th century by a German mayor and his peasant settlers on the property of the existing Kobyly estate and is mentioned for the first time in 1351 as Herkenecht . The name is probably derived from the word "Herrknecht". In order, the rulers of the newly created manor were the families Perín, Zápolya, Forgách and others. In 1828 there are 111 houses and 806 inhabitants. The German-speaking population was quickly assimilated by the Slovak-Russian population, in 1910 the inhabitants were almost all Slovaks.
