Lenartov (until 1927 Slovak and "Lanartov"; Hungarian Lénártó ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,162 (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a Prešovský kraj district , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located at the western end of the Lower Beskids and on the northern slope of the Čergov Mountains on the upper reaches of the Večný potok in the catchment area of the Topľa , near the border with Poland . The center of the village is at an altitude of 477 m nm and is 21 kilometers from Bardejov .
Neighboring communities are Malcov in the north and east, Lukov in the south, Obručné in the west and Muszyna (localities Dubne and Wojkowa) (PL) in the north-west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1427 and was then owned by a certain Andreas from Liptau . In the documents from the 16th century the place name is handed down as Lenartwagas . Further owners up to the 19th century were the Raszlaviczky family, the Kapy family (17th century) and Count Anhalt (19th century). In October 1814, an iron meteorite weighing 108 kg fell to the earth not far from the place, the largest part of which is now kept in the Hungarian National Museum. In 1828 there were 112 houses and 842 inhabitants who were employed as foresters, farmers and craftsmen.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1058 inhabitants in Lenartov, 593 of them Roma , 423 Slovaks and one Pole . 41 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
984 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 19 residents for the Greek Catholic Church, three residents for the Orthodox Church and two residents each for the Apostolic Church and two residents for the Evangelical Church AB.Three residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 48 residents was not determined.
