Malcov (until 1927 Slovak "Malcov"; Hungarian Malco ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 1,622 (as of December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a district of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern foothills of the Čergov Mountains not far from the Polish border in the Lower Beskids . Streams Večný potok and Veľký Rybný potok flow through the place, which flow into the Topľa at the lower end . The center, located at an altitude of 409 m nm , is 19 kilometers west of Bardejov and 37 kilometers east of Stará Ľubovňa .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Malczow in 1338 , but probably existed as early as the 13th century. The village has belonged to different landowners over the centuries. In 1427 Malcov was one of the largest villages in the area, with 51 porta . In 1828 there are 136 houses and 1018 inhabitants.
