Richvald (1927-1946 Slovak Rychvald , German Reich Forest , Hungarian Erdővágás until 1907 Hungarian Richvald ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 1,004 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a part of the Prešovský kraj .

location

Richvald

Richvald is located at an altitude of 373 meters in a north-west-south-east running valley on the northern slope of the Čergov Mountains belonging to the Western Carpathians at the transition to the Lower Beskids . The district town of Bardejov in the east is 10 kilometers as the crow flies from Richvald. Richvald can be reached from Bardejov via the expressway I / 77 leading west to Stará Ľubovňa , from which a secondary road (3497) branches off to the south to the municipality of Kružlov , which reaches Krivé after two kilometers and Richvald after another four kilometers. Somewhat closer is the southern route from Bardejov via road 545 to Kľušovská Zábava and there branching off to the northwest into the valley to Richvald, five kilometers away. Other neighboring villages are Hervartov, off the road to the south, and Bogliarka , a settlement two kilometers away as the crow flies, with around 130 inhabitants in the west, which can only be reached by road via Kruzlov.

history

The village of Reichwald was founded around 1300 by a mayor in the course of the German colonization to the east and is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1355. The name is derived from the once densely forested area. The place initially belonged to the noble family Perény, from the 1440s to 1848 largely to the town of Bartfeld (Bardejov) with a few exceptions. The first school was probably built in the early 15th century, but a school is only documented in 1600. The main source of income for the population was and is agriculture. In 1828 there are 110 houses and 813 inhabitants.

St. Bartholomew Church

Richvald is a street village that is traversed by the Richvaldský creek, which runs alongside the thoroughfare. There is a municipal administration ( obecný úrad ) in the center of the village, two grocery stores with restaurants and two churches.

The Roman Catholic St. Bartholomew's Church ( Kostol sv. Bartolomeja Apoštola ) in Gothic style dates back to the second half of the 14th century. The single-nave church with a polygonal apse and a square bell tower on the west gable stands on a small hill above the thoroughfare. A new Protestant church was completed in 2003.
