Koprivnica (until 1927 Slovak and "Pokryvnica"; Hungarian Magyarkapronca - until 1907 Kapronca ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 669 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a Prešovský kraj district , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located on the southwestern edge of the Low Beskids in the valley of the Koprivnička river in the Topľa catchment area . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 223 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Giraltovce and 24 kilometers from Bardejov .
Neighboring communities are Kochanovce and Harhaj in the north, Vyšný Kručov in the east, Kuková in the southeast, Stuľany in the south and Buclovany in the west.
history
Koprivnica was first mentioned in writing as Kaproncha in 1283 and was the seat of a small manor in the 13th century. In the 14th century there was a mill in the village. In 1427, 62 porta were recorded according to a tax register. Until 1433 the village was owned by the Cudar family , in the 16th and 17th centuries it was owned by the Bertóty family and was often seized. In 1787 the village had 67 houses and 534 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 119 houses and 876 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 688 people lived in Koprivnica, including 680 Slovaks , three Ukrainians and one each Pole and Czech . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
639 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 24 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 11 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Orthodox Church. Five residents were non-denominational and eight residents had no denomination.
