history

Becherov was first mentioned in writing in 1414 as Kewberher and was probably founded by some farming families with a mayor at the top. According to a local legend, the mayor from Galicia is called Becher . Until the abolition of serfdom in 1848, the village belonged to the Makovica castle estate . After a Polish-Hungarian conflict in 1492 only 7 out of 18 settlements were inhabited. The first reports on the school system come from the end of the 18th century. In 1787 there were 110 inhabitants and 641 inhabitants and in 1828 133 houses and 971 inhabitants. This is also the historically highest number of inhabitants. During the First World War there were some skirmishes between the Austro-Hungarian army and the attacking Russian army.

Until 1918, the place in Sharosh County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
