history

Kurov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1330 (other sources 1332) as Curo and was part of the territory of the Sharosh Castle . In 1427 there are 30 portals in a tax register, so Kurov was a relatively large village at that time. At the end of the 15th century the village came under the Makovica Castle estate , and in 1490 there was massive depopulation due to a Polish invasion. At the end of the 16th century, Kurov was settled by Wallachian colonization. The Aspremont and Desewffy families acquired estates in the 18th century , followed by the Erdődy family in the 19th century. In 1827 there were 92 houses and 704 inhabitants who were employed as cattle farmers and lime burners. In 1828 the whole place and two churches burned down. Various famines in the 19th century caused several waves of emigration, including to the USA.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. After the Second World War, the majority of the population found jobs in surrounding cities or abroad.
