Mariusz Kwiecień

Mariusz Kwiecień (born November 4, 1972 in Krakow ) is a Polish opera singer ( baritone ).

life and career

After studying singing at the Warsaw Music Academy , he made his debut in his hometown Cracow as Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell . In 1996 he first appeared at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw . In the same year, when he was just 24 years old, he received his first contract from the Metropolitan Opera in New York for Domenico Cimarosa's comic opera Il matrimonio segreto . A few months later he took part in the world premiere of the opera Der König Kandaules by Alexander von Zemlinsky at the Hamburg State Opera .

Invitations to other leading opera houses followed over the next few years: in 1997 to the Vienna State Opera , 1998 to La Scala in Milan , and the Glyndebourne Festival the following year . He first made a name for himself in Mozart's Da Ponte operas : as Don Giovanni , Guglielmo and Count Almaviva .

He made his debut in the title role in Eugen Onegin von Tchaikovsky in autumn 2001 at the Graz Opera . When he appeared in this role at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater in 2006 , he was celebrated by Russian music critics. As Eugene Onegin, he also appeared at other leading opera houses, she is, next to Don Giovanni, ideal for his rather high baritone and as his trademark.

He also owns the US - citizenship .
