Jakubova Voľa (Hungarian Jakabfölde - until 1907 Jakabvolya ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 400 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The municipality is located in the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie mountain range by the small stream Kohút in the Torysa Valley , with a portion of the Bachureň mountain range, where the highest point of the municipality, Kohút ( 711  m nm ), is located. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 375  m nm and is seven kilometers from Sabinov and 22 kilometers from Prešov .

Neighboring municipalities are Červenica pri Sabinove in the north, Pečovská Nová Ves in the east, Uzovský Šalgov and Uzovské Pekľany in the south and Rožkovany in the west.

Michaelskirche in place

The place was founded under German law and was first mentioned in writing in 1315 as Jakabfolua . The first mayor was a certain Jakob. The place belonged to the Berzeviczy family , in the 19th century the Péchy family . In 1427, nine porta were recorded according to a tax register. In 1828 there were 66 houses and 499 inhabitants who were employed as grain traders and farmers.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture was the main source of income for the population.

According to the 2011 census , 416 residents lived in Jakubova Voľa, of which 397 were Slovaks and three Russian . 16 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

359 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 28 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, two residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Apostolic Church. Four residents were non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for 20 residents.

Buildings and monuments

  • Roman Catholic Michaelskirche, executed in the core in the late Romanesque style, rebuilt in the 17th century and renewed in 1808. Inside there are Gothic frescoes from the 15th century

The nearest rail connection is the Červenica stop on the Kysak – Muszyna railway line . The 3rd order street 3186 in Červenica pri Sabinove connects to 1st order street 68 ( Ľubotín –Prešov).
