Ľubotín (until 1927 Slovak "Lubotiňa" or "Lubotýn"; Hungarian Lubotény - until 1907 Ľubotín ) is a municipality in the northeastern Slovakia with 1,355 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of kraj Prešovský belongs and belongs to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The community is located at the transition from the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountains to the west to the Leutschauer Berge to the south and the Čergov to the east . The place itself extends in the valley of the Ľubotínka brook , which flows into the Poprad behind the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 492  m nm and is 20 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa , 37 kilometers from Bardejov and 44 kilometers from Prešov .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into the municipal parts Ľubotín and Podpílie (incorporated in 1969, separated from the municipality of Plaveč ).

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1330 as Lubotin , the brook was known in writing at that time (e.g. 1287 Lubicyn ). The village developed on the site of an older settlement and belonged to the territory of the Kamenica Castle . In a tax register of 1427 a tax of 17 Porta is due. In 1600 the village had 12 inhabited houses, a mill, a school, a church and a parish.

In 1828 there are 75 houses and 565 inhabitants. In addition to agriculture and cattle breeding, there was a salt store and a landing stage for rafts in the 19th century; after 1918 there were saws and forges.
