Údol (until 1948 Slovak "Ujlak"; Hungarian Sárosújlak - until 1907 Uják , Russian Удол / Udol ) is a municipality in northeastern Slovakia with 369 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) belonging to Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of the Prešovský kraj , heard.

geography

The village is located on the southern slope of the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountain range on the left bank of the Poprad . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 519  m nm and is 12 kilometers by road from Stará Ľubovňa .

Neighboring municipalities are Malý Lipník and Starina in the north, Orlov in the east, Plaveč in the south, Plavnica in the south-west, Hajtovka in the west and Matysová in the north-west.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1349 and was part of the territory of the Plaveč Castle from the 14th to the 16th century . In 1427 32 portals were recorded in the Sáros County tax register for the place then called Wyak . But at the end of the 15th century the place became deserted and populated again in the 1520s when Russian-speaking residents settled here. In 1600 the village consisted of 17 houses for subjects and one house for the mayor. In 1755 the whole village fell victim to a fire.

In 1787 the village had 61 houses and 416 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 88 houses and 663 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Údol had 406 inhabitants, including 185 Russians , 182 Slovaks , 23 Ukrainians and one Magyar . 15 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

338 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church, 24 residents the Orthodox Church, 22 residents the Roman Catholic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB. Six residents had no denomination and 15 residents had no denomination.
