history

Greek Catholic wooden church Archangel Michael, exhibited in the open-air museum Stará Ľubovňa since 1979

Matysová was created in the second half of the 14th century under German law and was first mentioned in writing in 1408 as Mathezhaw . Shortly afterwards the original village went and was not rebuilt, so that, for example, in 1569 there was only a farm. It was not until the beginning of the 17th century, on the occasion of the landlords of Plaveč Castle , that a new establishment took place, which took over the old place name. In 1787 the village had 58 houses and 395 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 68 houses and 505 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, lime burners, farmers and weavers. At the beginning of the 20th century, a slow wave of emigration began, which continues to this day.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Today Matysová is a small place where citizens from surrounding cities also have their weekend houses.
