Hromoš (until 1948 Slovak "Gromoš"; Hungarian Kormos - until 1907 Gromos ) is a municipality in northeastern Slovakia with 499 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The community is located on the northern slope of the Leutschauer Berge on the Hromovec brook . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 523 m nm and is 13 kilometers by road from Stará Ľubovňa .
Neighboring municipalities are Plavnica in the west and north, Plaveč in the east, Ďurková in the south-east, Bajerovce in the south and Šambron in the south-west.
history
Hromoš arose in the 1580s under German law on the initiative of the Horváth family and was first mentioned in writing in 1600 as Gromos when a tax was due for the first time. At that time it was a small village with about 10 houses for subjects and one for the mayor and was part of the domain of the Plaveč Castle . In 1787 the village had 31 houses and 266 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 53 houses and 394 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, farmers, weavers and forest workers. Kozelec (first mentioned in 1427 as Kozlyk ) has been part of the Hromoš municipality since the early 19th century .
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. After 1918, the main sources of income for the population did not change. After the Second World War, some of the residents commuted to the surrounding industrial plants and to the Czech Republic.

According to the 2011 census, 498 people lived in Hromoš, of which 483 were Slovaks , seven Russians and one each from Rome , Czech and Ukrainian . Five residents gave no information about their ethnicity .
343 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 135 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Church AB and four residents to the Orthodox Church. Three residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
