history

The surrounding land from the Obručné brook to the Poprad was first mentioned in 1312 when a nobleman named Rikolf received the land by donation. However, the place did not emerge until the 1580s and was first mentioned in 1588 as Nowawolya and was then part of the dominion of the Plaveč Castle . At first the residents were exempt from paying taxes, but they did not have to pay taxes until 1600, when there were seven houses in the village.

In 1711 eleven families emigrated to Poland. The villagers maintained close ties with the residents of Leluchów and Dubne until World War II. In 1787 the village had 12 houses and 114 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 33 houses and 260 inhabitants. In the 19th century, the Bornemisza and Dessewffy families owned local estates.
