Pusté Pole is a municipality in northeast Slovakia with 226 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of the Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located between the Leutschauer Mountains and the Čergov Mountains on the Hradlová brook , a tributary of the Ľubotínka , northwest of the saddle of the same name. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 560 m nm and is 20 kilometers from Sabinov and 24 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .
Neighboring municipalities are Šarišské Jastrabie in the north, Kyjov in the east, Kamenica in the southeast and Krivany in the south and west.
history
A predecessor of today's place was first mentioned in writing in 1270 as Bachamezey , when the place was given to sons and relatives of a certain Detrik, together with the neighboring town of Kamenica and a large hunting ground. Towards the end of the 15th century this village went under and the area was henceforth called Puszta Mező (Hungarian for desert field). The nearby Vislianka was alternatively known under this name or the Slovak equivalent until 1927 .
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On January 15, 1956, the previous settlement in the municipality of Krivany was separated and raised to an independent municipality.

According to the 2011 census, there were 228 Slovak residents in Pusté Pole, as well as one Rom , one Russian and one Czech . 10 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
190 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 21 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident professed a different denomination. Three residents were non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for 12 residents.

Pusté Pole has a train station on the Kysak – Muszyna railway line and can be reached via a branch off road 68 .
