The tanker was hijacked by Somali pirates on May 10, 2012 in the Arabian Sea about 285  nautical miles south-east of the Masira island in Oman . The ship had loaded around 135,000 t of crude oil worth 115 million US dollars and was on its way from a Turkish port to Borneo , Indonesia . On board the ship were 26  seamen , 14 Filipino , eleven Indians and one Romanian . On June 3, 2012, units of the Puntland Marine Police Force tried unsuccessfully to free the ship anchored off the coast of Somalia . There were reports that the tanker was being used by the pirates as a base for attacks on other ships.

The tanker was released in early March 2013 (figures vary between March 8th and March 10th) after the pirates reportedly received a $ 13 million ransom.

Two of the pirates were brought to justice in Germany in 2018. You came to Germany as an asylum seeker . They could be identified on the basis of their fingerprints, which were identical to fingerprints found on board after the ship was released. One of the pirates was sentenced to two and a half years and the other to seven years in prison.
