Legnava (Slovak to 1927 "Legňava"; German Legenau , Hungarian Hosszúvágás - until 1907 Lagno , Rusyn Леґнава / Legnawa ) is a municipality in the northeastern Slovakia with 98 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part des Prešovský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountain range on the left bank of the Poprad , right on the border with Poland . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 466 m nm and is 22 kilometers by road from Stará Ľubovňa .
Neighboring communities are Muszyna (places Andrzejówka, Milik and the city of Muszyna ) in the north and east, Orlov in the south and Starina in the west.
history
Legnava arose after 1366 on a wooded piece of land that a nobleman named Jakob received from the Hungarian King Ludwig I to found a village there. This was first mentioned in writing in 1427 as Langnow . That same year, the village in the amount of seven was Porta taxed. According to a document from 1440, only Wallachians lived in Legnava. Around 1600 it was a medium-sized village with 16 houses for the subjects and the Russian population. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Semsey and Szirmay families owned local estates . In 1787 the village had 41 houses and 298 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 59 houses and 503 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, farmers and forest workers.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Legnava had 125 inhabitants, including 93 Slovaks , 23 Russian , four Roma and one Russian . Four residents did not give any information about their ethnicity .
73 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church, 34 residents the Roman Catholic Church, two residents the Orthodox Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB. Two residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 13 residents was not determined.
