Mníšek nad Popradom (German Remz , formerly Einsiedl , Hungarian Poprádremete , until 1902 Mnisek ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 628 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019)
geography
It is located in the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountains on the left bank of the Poprad on the Polish border , 16 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .
It consists of the districts Kače , Medzibrodie , Mníšek nad Popradom ( Remz ), Pilhov ( Pilhof ) and Pilhovčík (both incorporated in 1960).
Neighboring municipalities are Piwniczna-Zdrój in the north and east, Sulín and Hraničné in the south and Jarabina in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1323 as Heremitoris and was part of the territory of the Lublauer Burg and was therefore pledged by the Polish between 1412 and 1772. In the first half of the 16th century, the area was settled by Wallachian people and many hamlets / isolated settlements emerged in the area, some of which are uninhabited today.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Mníšek nad Popradom had 662 residents, including 645 Slovaks , 14 Poles and one Ukrainian . One resident stated a different ethnic group and one resident gave no information about the ethnic group .
629 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 26 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and two residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Orthodox Church. One resident had no denomination and the denomination was not determined for two residents.
