Starina (Hungarian Poprádófalu - until 1907 Sztarina ) is a municipality in northeastern Slovakia with 49 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of the Prešovský kraj .

Center of Starina

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Ľubovnianska vrchovina mountain range on the Starinský creek and on the left bank of the Poprad , just one kilometer south of the border with Poland . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 466  m nm and is 21 kilometers by road from Stará Ľubovňa .

Neighboring municipalities are Muszyna (Andrzejówka) in the north, Legnava in the east, Orlov in the southeast, Údol in the south and Malý Lipník in the west.

history

Greek Catholic Church

Starina was first mentioned in writing as Stara in 1352 and was then part of the territory of the Plaveč Castle . In 1427 no tax was due for the place. In the 17th century, the Berzeviczy and Semsey families owned large parts of the village, while the Salamon family owned it in the 19th century . In 1787 the village had 34 houses and 227 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 53 houses and 394 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and weavers, and in the 19th century Starina had large gardens.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic, there were strong waves of emigration, later part of the remaining population worked in industrial plants in Stará Ľubovňa, Košice , but also in the Czech part of Czechoslovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 47 inhabitants in Starina, including 33 Slovaks and 13 Russians . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .
