geography

The municipality is located on the northern slope of the Leutschauer Berge ( Levočské vrchy in Slovak ) on the Jakubianka brook , which flows a few kilometers down into the Poprad . The easiest road access to the municipality is through the neighboring municipality of Nová Ľubovňa and the town of Stará Ľubovňa , which is seven kilometers to the north.

history

The place was founded in the 14th century on the site of a decayed settlement. On the occasion of the owner of Lublau Castle , Philip Drugeth, a mayor named Stephan founded a village in 1322 that was called Stephanisau and was settled by the Germans and Slovaks. Shortly after the establishment, the place was renamed Jakobsau . In the early 15th century a division into an upper and a lower part is known. 1412–1776 Jakobsau was leased to Poland. In 1497 there was a second colonization with Wallachian and Russian residents.

Until 1918 the place was in Zips County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Part of the municipality was given to the Javorina military area in 1953 , but it was abolished in early 2011 and reintegrated into the municipality, together with the Hniezdno cadastral municipality .
