Veľký Lipník (German Großlaupnik , Hungarian Nagyhársas - until 1907 Nagylipnik ) is a municipality in the northeast of Slovakia with a population of 935 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Stará Ľubovňa , part of kraj Prešovský heard and the traditional landscape Zips is counted .
geography
The community is located in the valley of the Lipník brook between the Spiš Magura south and the Pienines north of the village, near the Polish border. The Šoltysa brook still flows from the Spis Magura . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 580 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Spišská Stará Ves and 19 kilometers from Stará Ľubovňa .
Neighboring municipalities are Lesnica and Szczawnica (PL) in the north, Stráňany in the east, Vyšné Ružbachy , Podolínec and Toporec in the south, Veľká Lesná in the southwest and Haligovce in the west.
history
Veľký Lipník was created between 1235 and 1270 as part of the settlement of the outskirts of the Kingdom of Hungary , while the village was settled by Germans and Slavs under German law. The place is named after the linden trees that still grow in the area. Some names from the Middle Ages are Lypnice (1315), Lupnik (1330), Fellyupnik (1338) and Lyndona , Lyndnou (1390). In the first half of the 14th century, the village was donated to the Görgey family by King Charles I. In the 15th and 16th centuries there was another settlement according to Wallachian law ; new residents were Russians from Galicia
In 1787 there were 142 houses and 1005 inhabitants and in 1828 199 houses and 1428 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as wire ties and shepherds.
Until 1918 the place in Zips County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Veľký Lipník had 984 inhabitants, including 828 Slovaks, 134 Russians, four Czechs, two Ukrainians and one Pole. 15 residents gave no answer. 791 residents committed themselves to the Greek Catholic Church, 141 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident was of a different denomination. 14 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 26 residents has not been determined.
