Vysoká (until 1927 Slovak "Vysoke"; Hungarian Magas - until 1907 Viszoka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 121 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The municipality is located in the northwestern part of the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie mountain range below the Bachureň Mountains in the valley of the Vysocký creek in the catchment area of ​​the Upper Torysa . The center of the village is at an altitude of 550  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Lipany and 26 kilometers from Sabinov .

Neighboring municipalities are Torysa in the north, Ďačov in the east, Dubovica in the southeast, Nižný Slavkov in the south, Brezovička in the west and Brezovica in the northwest.

history

Church in place

Vysoká was first mentioned in writing as Wyzka in 1278 and was then part of the dominion of Torysa. In 1427, 21 portals were recorded according to a tax register. In the 16th century Vysoká was owned by the Dessewffy and Berzeviczy families . In 1600 there were nine subject houses, a church, a parish and a school. In 1787 the village had 38 houses and 273 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 34 houses and 218 inhabitants who were employed as apple growers, manufacturers of wooden tools and joiners as well as carpenters.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture, livestock farming and seasonal forest work were the main sources of income. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Lipany, Košice and Poprad .

According to the 2011 census, 136 inhabitants lived in Vysoká, of whom 127 were Slovaks . Nine residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

125 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church. The denomination was not determined for ten residents.
